Sent: Saturday, November 08, 2003 7:15 AM Subject: good work At first I thought I came across
your website by mistake, but after reading what you are about, I don’t think
so. I am an ex-smoker and a cyclist who
is concerned about first and second hand smoke. I quit smoking in 1991 after my doctor told me that with my
history of asthma if I didn’t quit smoking I would have emphysema before I was
50. I worked after school in a hospital
for 3 years and have seen people with emphysema so I knew I didn’t want
that. It wasn’t easy but I did
quit. Bought a Trek 1200 in 1992 and have breathed better
every year since then. I am employed
with the Railroad as a locomotive engineer and about 3 years ago, they adopted
a smoking policy that only allows smoking outside. Everyone at work knows I do not like to be around smoke but it is
amazing that some people will still light up in doorways where central heat or
air sucks the smoke right back in. At
first it was hard to confront someone about the smoking but after I realized
that I was the only one who was concerned about my health, it became a lot
easier. I would love to be there on New
Years Day but I live in North Carolina which is a long way from you and I can’t
part with my golf clubs, “even though there are times…….” But I am sending a donation in the form of a
check.
Good luck in all you do, Robin P.
