James L. Litwiller
(Jimmy Lit)
(Aug 4, 1944 - Sept. 21, 2003)
Jim died Sunday, September 21st, 2003, at the age of 59.
Jimmy died suddenly in Las Vegas of an apparent heart attack.
Our deepest sympathies go out to all his wonderful relatives
and large family of friends in the U.S. and Canada.
My ex-wife Dede McDonough worked with Jimmy for his entire 22 years at Land Title of Nevada.
I only had the pleasure of knowing Jimmy for approx. the last 13-14 years.
We enjoyed bowling and golfing with Jimmy on many occasions over the years. The only
round of golf I ever played at the beautiful TPC Summerlin course was with Jimmy and several other great
people from Land Title (thanks J.Ward). Jimmy was the type of golfer I loved to play
with. Always complimentary and encouraging, yet competitive and very talented.
With his distinct, friendly voice, I can recall him saying things like "nice shot
Bobby", "you're still away Bobby", or "I think your ball is O.B. Bobby" (few people ever
called me Bobby, but I loved it when he did).
Over the last few years we didn't bowl very much with Jimmy because Dede and I
became highly sensitive (and increasingly knowledgeable) about the dangers of
cigarette smoke. The more I learned, the more I realized, we have to do whatever we
can to change old smoking laws asap and help the 83% of smokers who want to quit.
I then decided to combine my hobby of golfing and collecting golf putters with my passion for helping others.
Hence our organization named "Putters from Heaven" was created. We will display some of our
golf putters at many locations around the country and we'll have a special
display commemorating our fallen friend and fellow putter...Jimmy Lit.
I know that Jimmy's death has not been attributed to smoking (whether
it was or not, is irrelevant today). Based on the goals of this organization, and
the fact that I know Jimmy wanted to quit and had tried without success. It is my
intention, that some day, someone reading this today, will make the decision to beat
their nicotine addition.
